Cherries as an Effective Natural Remedy for Gout

Both sweet cherries (dark cherries) and sour cherries (ruby-red cherries) have proved to be very benefic for gout sufferers. Sweet cherries contain few calories and are rich in natural fibers. Sweet cherries contain melatonin, a chemical that has sedative and analgesic effects. Thus, the intake of sweet cherries can also ease recurrent gout pain. In addition, this type of cherries contains a powerful natural antioxidant that acts similarly to vitamin C. Sweet cherries can also lower the levels of inflammatory substances such as nitric oxide and C-reactive protein, chemicals that are related to gout, diabetes and heart disease. Nearly 50 years ago, a Texas cardiologist had gout so bad one day he had to cancel his appointments and stay home. While he was hobbling around, he found the cherries his wife was going to use for some cherry pies. He started munching them, and the next day felt much better. He wrote a few medical letters about his experience, advocating about a dozen cherries a day, with a lot more with a flare-up.

Check out this website: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/eating-plan-for-gout If he can take Tylenol or any pain killer it will help with the pain and swelling. SInce gout has to do with fluid build up maybe the doctor can give him a fluid pill to get rid of some of the fluid in his body. Drinking a lot of fluids would also help flush out some of the excess fluids as well. The above website will provide some info on diet changes that should help. I hope this info helps.

Drink plenty of clear liquids, water being the best choice because it is so pure. Water not only properly hydrates the body and promotes overall health, but it also reduces the uric acid levels in the body. Low fat dairy milk is also a good choice to help rid your body of uric acid.
